Formula 1, abbreviated to F1, championships take place annually. Traditionally in Europe, the championship is incorporating more and more venues outside of Europe, organised and regulated by FIA its governing body. The first Formula 1 took place at Silverstone in England.

It is a test of driver and vehicle followed by millions of fans on television throughout the world. There is also a very lucrative sideline of merchandise relating to the drivers and to the teams, which is really big business.

The season culminates with the driver with the most points being declared the champion driver and the most succesful vehicle constructor taking their own trophy.

Events take place over a week-end with practice sessions over the Friday and Saturday determining the grid positions for the race on the Sunday. The fastest during practice takes the envied and advantageous pole position, the first on the grid. Only 2 cars/drivers from each team are permitted.

Most races take place on purpose built circuits but there are a few which are street races - the most famous being the Monte Carlo Grand Prix.
